Speed Up Cable Modem :: Internet Speed
As internet connection speeds increase the design of older Windows versions have a difficult time with the speed. Windows default technical settings dealt with people using dial-up modem connections.
This means – if you run a faster internet connection then these default settings… the settings might keep you from getting all the speed out of a cable modem that you should be.

You can manually speed up cable modem connections with a little tweak to the technical settings in the Windows registry. I don’t recommend doing it… just one typo and your machine may not boot. Most users prefer to use software designed to make changes automaticly.
Gamers – here’s how to get started speeding up cable connections.
To open the Registry Editor program, click on the Start button, click Run, and then type: regedit.
Before you go to the next step, I recommend you either set a System Restore point, and make a backup of the registry by using the Export option on the File menu of the Registry Editor.
In the left section of the Registry Editor
- Double-click HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- Software
- Microsoft
- CurrentVersion
- Internet Settings
- Now, in the right section
Right-click a blank space
- Choose New
- click on DWORD Value
- Type –> MaxConnectionsPerServer
- Press Enter
- Double-click MaxConnectionsPerServer
- type 20
- Press Enter again
Then you can close the Registry Editor.
You’ve now made one of the small registry changes to help increase the speed of cable modem connections.
What this change does is tell Windows to make lots of different connections at the same time, instead of putting a limit on connections. You should see a speed improvement in your web browser, especially at websites that load lots of images.
