Sorting Out Tuning DSL Connections

When sorting out your tuning of a DSL connection ensure that all relevant tests are carried out with only your web browser up and running. Websites that I have come across include ToastNet for example. This apparently is a simple site that seeks to test your speed to various toast.net points on the Internet.

Included is a text test as well as a graphics test under each city location. Results to Toast.Net are said to vary quite considerably but it is definitely a simple site ideal for beginners.

While browsing the internet for info on tuning a DSL line you’ll probably find the site DSL Reports.com. This delivers and conducts more advanced tests from a simple 56k dialup modem connection right through to a T1 usage. This site is argued to be more advanced than Toast.Net and Computing Central for example but is definitely rated by many users as good site nonetheless. There is a slightly higher level of skill required however.

Also, there is 2Wire.com which is a site requiring a Java enabled web browser like the IE 5.0 or Netscape 4.03. On some older computers (less than 400mhz) the Java applet takes a while longer to load but is this a worth bearing for many because it is contended it is a very easy to use and effective site with a low to medium skill level required.

Finally, and my choice is simply using software for tuning DSL connections.
