Computer Speed Test For Faster Internet Speed

We’ve all done it… brought home our new computer, got it all set up and were amazed at the computer speed, how fast it would boot and the fast internet speed. No need to run a computer speed test, you can see it is fast. Of course you’re computer speed test (mentally) against your old PC that the kids now abuse or use for games and IM or maybe it is against the PC at work. But, you know it’s fast, you can see it!!!

Well the machine should be fast… it has a faster processor and more memory most likely and nothing to get in the way. It has a new operating system with files all in order, no installed programs except for the ones that came with it that you’ll never use and you haven’t connection to the internet.

The machine is new but it is really only a basic setup. No settings have been tweaked to give a PC booster shot to the system. The computer is all set and ready to go… to start becoming slower.

Why is the system going to become slower... is now the time to test computer speed?

Your system will slow down as more data fills the hard drive, programs are installed and more programs sit in memory… I know you’ve got 80 gigs of hard drive space and 256 megs of RAM but!!! As the data comes in it goes all over the place and slowly fragments files. You’ll install programs and uninstall programs. The kids will cry and whine to put their games on because their computer is too slow… and you’ll give in. Then you’ll experience an aggravating computer crash and more.

Is now the time to test computer speed?

No… here’s where to start. Just like cars need regular maintenance to keep running in tip top shape… computer speed is no different.

  • Clean out all the Temporary Internet Files – regularly
  • Dump all of the files in your TEMP folder – regularly
  • Run a defrag on your hard drive to get all the files back in order
  • Keep up with your Anti-Virus updates – at least every week
  • Back up your DATA – DATA is King. You can replace programs but your DATA means hours of work for you to input all the old information.

I’d also recommend that to improve your system’s performance you use software that will turbo charge the computer settings and work as a PC Optimizer. I run speed optimizing software on all 6 of my computers, both new and older machines… all the way down to a Pentium 200 mhz (I love the old scanning software that runs on the machine). Yes, even older machines can be improved by more then 200 % in some cases.

Just remember regular maintenance is probably the best way to test computer speed… tune it up with a PC booster and keep it clean and organized for the fastest it can be.
