Check Computer Speed :: Internet Speed
When buying a computer you should first check computer speed. There are various methods and programs used to check your computer speed. The Internet offers a bundle of solutions, some of them better than others.

Most programs that you find on the Internet check your internet connection speed; they do not check your computer speed. These are two separate things! Your computer speed depends on the speed of your processor, the size of your memory, the memory type (SDRAM, DDRAM, RDRAM), the FSB (front serial bus), the hard disk (ATA 100, ATA 133, Serial ATA, SCSI) etc.
Different Test – Different Programs
To run a check on your computer speed you must have different programs installed depending on what is being tested. For example, for testing the video card speed the most used application is 3D Mark, offered by Futuremark Corporation (the former MadOnion). There are also different game benchmarks, like Quake 3, Unreal 2003.The processor speed can be tested by using RayMark Benchmark, the hard drives’ speed by using HDTach or WinBench and the CDRW and DVD burners’ speed by using Nero CD Speed and Nero DVD Speed.
These are specialized tests (you can test only one PC component), but there are also generic benchmarks for checking computer speed (overall speed, not only a component’s speed). The most used applications in checking the speed of a computer is PC Mark and SiSoft Sandra Professional.
Most people are concerned about one thing when they think of computer speed, and that’s how fast they can access websites. The speed of a computer and speed of internet connection are different. For a good overall program(s) to tweak system setting look at SpeedUpMyPC and Double the Speed of My PC. Both tune up your machine and improve performance.
