Connection speed test, internet speed checker… all phases used to describe an internet connection speed test. When you have slow speed test download results, you’ll need to make some changes to improve performance and boost download speed.

Believe it or not all of us do more downloading then we realize. In fact, downloading files is a big priority. Files get downloaded files from all over. Files like the:

Latest software driver

Virus updates

MP3′s

Video files

Email and attachments

Program service packs

…and more

No matter what’s being downloaded… large file size + slow internet speed = lots of time.

Although choices exist to connect to the internet… 56K modem speed, cable speed, DSL speed or even T1 speed, just about everyone can use a window tweak to boost download speed. It’s a simple fact – everyone wants as much connection speed as possible.

Can a internet speed test help make your download speed faster?

Yes!!! You can make internet speed faster? Some of the speed gains vary depending on internet connection type, modem used or ethernet card settings. But you can improve internet access speed and in the process, speed up your computer and boost download speed.

Most computers today come from the factory with basic or generic settings. These settings can be changed and optimized to get faster internet speeds.

How to Speed up your Downloads?

Two methods to change your computer settings. Do a manual Speed Test Download and make changes to the registry (not recommended) by hand like this:

Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP
Value Name: DefaultRcvWindow
Value Type: String Value
Value Data: 64240
Details – has to be a multiple of MSS for best results, i.e. (MaxMTU-40) x number…
Best settings to try with MSS=1460 are 64240, 46720 and 23360, in that order

That’s only one of the PC optimizing changes and it’s too much work… you’re wide open to type something wrong or put the wrong number in.

OR

The simplest, fastest way comes in a software solution that runs a speed test download program, examines computer settings and makes all the changes. You’ll have an optimized PC in a matter of minutes.

If you’re running Windows XP check out SpeedUpMyPC. Designed for use with Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional and does just what it says – an XP tweak.

Another windows package that works well – webROCKET. webROCKET will automatically speed up internet connections by boosting Internet data transport efficiency. Plus, webROCKET adapts your modem or high-speed connection to its maximum potential.

Best of all… both software solutions can be downloaded in minutes, make the changes automatically and set you up for faster internet speeds and fast downloads.

Speed test download, connection speed test, internet speed checker… whatever phase you use, make sure you run an internet connection speed test, make the changes and boost download speed.

The Internet is a great place for entertainment, research, business and communication. And no matter what type of connection you have, be it dial-up or broadband, you’ll want to be sure that you’re getting the fastest web surfing experience you can for the price you pay. Practically everyone’s connection could use a boost and by using ActiveSpeed or WebRocket which are two of the best web accelerators, you’ll see your web surfing speed up like never before.

While the debate goes on as to which is the absolute best web accelerator, consumers, especially dial-up users, will benefit no matter which product they choose.

Simple Software Installation Tweak’s, Optimize and Configures Settings

Using either product or one of the many others is as simple as installing software. Once loaded on your computer’s hard drive, these programs optimize your system settings and cache memory to make your computer more efficient at loading and storing data it receives from the Internet. The result is that many web pages load faster.

Both programs operate with Windows and work with both dial-up as well as broadband connections. AOL users will also enjoy speed bumps that the software provides.

Using WebRocket, ActiveSpeed or one of the many other programs out there to tweak your computer will definitely increase your enjoyment of the Internet. And while they can’t do anything for slow servers or extremely high traffic and they generally don’t improve download and upload speeds, they can give you a tremendous boost under normal surfing circumstances.

There are all sorts of programs available to meter your internet connection speed in real-time – that is, as it happens. You’ll know how fast web pages are downloading, how fast games are working, and other things that you wouldn’t normally be shown a speed for. The program will even work out an average for you over time.

Most of these programs to measure internet speed are shareware. Shareware allows you to pay a small fee after a set period of time after installing and running the software. Some features might be disabled unless you register with the person or company who wrote the software.

Looking for something Free!

<img src="http://www.internet-speed-guide.com/images/network-connect.jpg" alt="network connect" align="left" hspace="10"

If you're after something for free, you won't find much better than PC Magazine's classic NetPerSec, available at PCMag. It's been available for years and has really stood the test of time, and is just as useful today as it ever was. You can set it to run at startup and draw a constant graph of your internet connection speed in a small box in the system tray (next to the clock).

Another alternative is NetStat Live. It’s slightly larger and less bare-bones, with a bit of a hospital feel. If you're trying to diagnose whether you have a problem with internet connection speed or CPU speed, then this could be the program to consider.

The big way to increase performance for dial-up users is to improve connection speeds. The problem is that getting any noticeable improvement can be difficult.

For example, one neighborhood maybe served by a particular kind of telephone switch that doesn’t work well with modem connections faster than 28.8Kbps. People in that neighborhood are stuck. They can buy faster modems, but until the provider upgrades that switch to improve internet connection speeds, they’ll never go faster than 28.8Kbps.

So how can you improve or increase connection speeds?

<img src="http://www.internet-speed-guide.com/images/fiber-optic.jpg" alt="fiber optic" align="left" hspace="10"

First, pinpoint the speed you're connecting. You can find this out in the Port Status dialog box in the Remote Access Admin application.

Next step to improve access speeds is to check your dial-up capabilities and see whether you have compatible equipment. Users can't use 56Kbps modems to dial remote access services unless the inbound lines have the appropriate kind of modem pool. Most modem vendors have firmware upgrades available that make your modem pool fully compliant with the current revision of the V.90 standard.

Time for a Connection Change

Of course, one way to improve connection speeds is to change connection methods. Giving yourself a broadband connection can dramatically improve your throughput at a small expense.

If you really want to improve connection speeds, no matter the costs, consider upgrading to a T1 or T3 line connection. The difference is huge, you have all the speed you need, and you won’t ever want to improve connection speed again.

We’ve all done it… brought home our new computer, got it all set up and were amazed at the computer speed, how fast it would boot and the fast internet speed. No need to run a computer speed test, you can see it is fast. Of course you’re computer speed test (mentally) against your old PC that the kids now abuse or use for games and IM or maybe it is against the PC at work. But, you know it’s fast, you can see it!!!

Well the machine should be fast… it has a faster processor and more memory most likely and nothing to get in the way. It has a new operating system with files all in order, no installed programs except for the ones that came with it that you’ll never use and you haven’t connection to the internet.

The machine is new but it is really only a basic setup. No settings have been tweaked to give a PC booster shot to the system. The computer is all set and ready to go… to start becoming slower.

<img src="http://www.internet-speed-guide.com/images/people-network.jpg" alt="Networking" align="left" hspace="10"

Why is the system going to become slower... is now the time to test computer speed?

Your system will slow down as more data fills the hard drive, programs are installed and more programs sit in memory… I know you’ve got 80 gigs of hard drive space and 256 megs of RAM but!!! As the data comes in it goes all over the place and slowly fragments files. You’ll install programs and uninstall programs. The kids will cry and whine to put their games on because their computer is too slow… and you’ll give in. Then you’ll experience an aggravating computer crash and more.

Is now the time to test computer speed?

No… here’s where to start. Just like cars need regular maintenance to keep running in tip top shape… computer speed is no different.

Clean out all the Temporary Internet Files – regularly

Dump all of the files in your TEMP folder – regularly

Run a defrag on your hard drive to get all the files back in order

Keep up with your Anti-Virus updates – at least every week

Back up your DATA – DATA is King. You can replace programs but your DATA means hours of work for you to input all the old information.

I’d also recommend that to improve your system’s performance you use software that will turbo charge the computer settings and work as a PC Optimizer. I run speed optimizing software on all 6 of my computers, both new and older machines… all the way down to a Pentium 200 mhz (I love the old scanning software that runs on the machine). Yes, even older machines can be improved by more then 200 % in some cases.

Just remember regular maintenance is probably the best way to test computer speed… tune it up with a PC booster and keep it clean and organized for the fastest it can be.

Cable modem speed alone is fast. In fact there is a saying… “If you’re able, get cable”. Cable modems are typically faster for downloads than most if not all DSL lines. This is especially true when the cable speed infrastructure is new or well maintained.

One of the problems of cable internet speeds is that it is a shared media with other devices. Performance may degrade as additional households plug in, connect additional computers and other devices like videos and game machines to the TV lines.

Just because you have “speed” doesn’t mean checking cable modem speed and running a speed test isn’t necessary. You may not be able to control if your cable connection goes out… but you can control or enhance your cable speed internet connection.

<img src="http://www.internet-speed-guide.com/images/switch.jpg" alt="computer switch" align="left" hspace="10"

When you test cable connection speed you'll most likely find that without some modem tweaks you’ll never have internet speeds you’ll be happy with.

Why is that? It’s simple… Windows when it is originally set up is in a very basic configuration and isn’t tuned for a fast high speed internet connection. That’s why everyone can use a cable modem booster because when it comes to cable internet speeds, we all want as fast as we can!

Is Fast Cable Speed possible?

Yes it is…

The easiest way is increase cable internet speed is to use one of the cable modem boosters available on the market like webRocket , Double the Speed of Your PC, ActiveSpeed. These software solutions are like having a pro tweak xp by using a speed test on the cable modem to check current settings and make the cable modem tweaks necessary to speed up internet connections. Set up is easy with just a couple clicks.

Most of the packages all work with Windows® 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP. However, there are some internet speed packages designed just to do an XP tweak. Each have unique features but all of them will help you boost cable speed.

Cable Speed Software

WebRocket
webROCKET2002 is a powerful, easy-to-use program for Windows® 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP which accelerates your Internet connection speed by
up to 200%.

Double the Speed of Your PC
Top PC Tweaks for boosting your RAM, CPU speed, internet connection, modem speed, cable speed, DSL speed, memory and much more including internet speed test to check internet speed.

ActiveSpeed
Dramatically improves any home or office Internet connection. It works with all Internet services, including AOL and local ISPs. ActiveSpeed’s patent-pending Intelligent Optimization Engine will continually monitor and optimize you connection so the more you use ActiveSpeed the faster it gets.

Do you want or need to boost XP performance and get more computer and internet speed?
If you’re running Windows XP it’s probably a fairly new computer. I’ve been using computers back to the days of before DOS and have been running windows since Windows 3.1.

Now sitting on my desktop is Windows XP and I really like it. XP just makes many computer things easier to do. One place we all seem to get side tracked in the use of our computer is keeping it in tip top shape. Yes… regular maintenance.

If you’ve bought a new computer in the last year you’re probably running Windows XP. That means you most likely have fast computer speed a lot of hard drive space, 128 megs of RAM and a CD burner. Basically you are sitting with a lot of computing power. With all the hard drive space and memory we all have a tendency to load up programs, games, install a demo and test things out.

<img src="http://www.internet-speed-guide.com/images/web-address.jpg" alt="web address" align="left" hspace="10"

The computer hard drive can get cluttered. After a while all PC's gradually slow down... even XP can use a PC booster shot and a windows tweak.

Answer a couple of questions…

Do you play a lot of computer games and find the computer speed a little slow at times?

Has the computer speed at boot-up seem to drag.

Does your fast high speed internet connection seem not as fast as it could be?

If you answered yes to any of these questions it’s probably time to finally optimize that fast computer and give it an XP boost. We all want fast downloads, a PC that boots fast and runs even faster… don’t we?

Here’s a few things to recover some of that fast computer speed and help with internet speed.

Delete the temporary files in your Internet Cache

Delete the temporary files in your Temp folder

Do a defrag of your hard drive

Remove all unwanted or unused programs

Finally take a look at one of the PC Optimizers like Double the Speed of Your PC, SpeedUpMyPC or ActiveSpeed.

You don’t need to be a computer programmer to do an XP boost and it will only take a few minutes to increase or improve:

PC computer speed

RAM performance

Speed up the hard drive

Modem speed

Internet connection speed

CD or DVD performance

Video
and more…

Installation is fast and easy with NO, NADA, ZIP hardware changes to make, NO complicated installations. If you can click a mouse you can improve your computer speed, internet speed and give it an XP boost. It’s all pretty easy!

You might have a fast computer be even XP could use an XP boost.

We’ve all done it… brought home our new computer, got it all set up and were amazed at how fast it was. No need to test computer speed, you can see it is fast. Of course you’re testing it against your old PC that the kids now abuse or use for games and IM or maybe it is against the PC at work.

But, you can tell it’s fast!!!

Well the machine should be fast… it not only has a faster engine and nothing to get in the way. It has a new operating system with files all in order, no installed programs except for the ones that came with it you’ll never use and no connection to the internet.

The machine is new but it is really only a basic setup. No settings have been tweaked to give a PC booster shot to the system. The computer is all set and ready to go – to start becoming slower.

Why is the system going to become slower… is now the time for testing computer speed?

<img src="http://www.internet-speed-guide.com/images/smart-drive.jpg" alt="smart drive" align="left" hspace="10"

Your system will slow down as more data fills the hard drive, programs are installed and more programs sit in memory - I know you've got 80 gigs and 256 megs of RAM but!!! As the data comes in it goes all over the place and slowly fragments files. You'll install programs and uninstall programs. The kids will cry and whine to put their game in because their computer is too slow... and you'l give in. Then you'll experience an aggravating computer crash and more.

Is now the time to test your computer’s speed?

No… here’s where to start. Everything needs some regular maintenance to keep running in tip top shape and computer speed is no different.

I’d also recommend that to improve your system’s performance you use software that will turbo charge the computer settings and work as a PC Booster. I run speed optimizing software on all 6 of my computers, both new and older machines… all the way down to a Pentium 200 mhz (I love the old scanning software that runs on the machine). Yes, even older machines can be improved by more then 200 % in some cases.

If you want everything to happen automatically look at winROCKET. If doing an XP tweak is more your style look at WinBoost 4 or MagicTweak.

Just remember regular maintenance is probably the best way to test the speed of your computer… tune it up with a PC booster and keep it clean and organized for the fastest it can be.

I’ll bet you’re wondering if it is possible?

The answer is Yes, you can speed up your computer free but we didn’t say it would be easy and it will take some time. In order for you to speed up your computer – at now charge – you’ll have to do some research into what computer settings will need to change in order for you get your computer a PC booster shot.

Before you start trying to do any manual Windows tweaks make sure you know what the settings are before you make the change and make sure everything in backed up in case of a crash!!!

I’ve been working on tweaking computers for clients for over 15 years and honestly it takes to much time and effort to boost computer speed by doing it all manually when a inexpensive software programs exist that can do it all in a few minutes.

To get things started off right… go to www.microsoft.com and visit the knowledgebase. Do a search on computer speed settings and see where it leads.

You can speed up your computer free but why waste time NOT using your computer for the things you bought it for… surfing, playing games, finances and more. All that time wasted when you can have speed up your computer in minutes with an PC booster.

The answer is Yes, but we didn’t say it would be easy and it will take some time. In order for you to speed up your internet connections, you’ll need to spend some time online doing some research or spend hours reading through books to find out what computer settings will need to change in order for you to speed up internet for free. But … TIme is money

Before you start trying to do any manual window tweaks make sure that you know what the settings are before you make any changes and make sure everything is backed up in case of a crash!!! Been there — done that!

I’ve been tweaking computers for myself and clients over 20 years. Honestly it takes to much time and effort to boost download speed by doing it all manually, when a optimizing software program can do it all in a few minutes.

<img src="http://www.internet-speed-guide.com/images/fiber-optic.jpg" alt="fiber optic" align="left" hspace="10"

Run an Internet Speed Test!

Get things started off right – first Run a Free Internet Speed Test! See How Fast YOU Are Surfing NOW!!!!. Then go out to www.microsoft.com and visit the knowledgebase. Do a search on communication settings and see where it leads.

You can speed up that internet connection for free but why waste time NOT surfing when you can have faster internet speed in minutes with an internet booster.
