It could be your computer setup

When you purchased your computer it came - setup - with very average or basic settings. This allows the manufacturers to have a very generic setup which makes trouble shooting easier. Let’s face it ... they don’t really know how or for what you’re going to be using your computer for or if internet speed is important.

If your computer is older - a little more RAM might give you the performance push you need. You may just have too many programs opened and need to manage your RAM better. It may be a full or old hard drive that is working its tail off.

It could be your internet connection setup

You internet connection could involve a few things. It could be the site you are connecting to which may be slow or having a lot of traffic or actually your computer's internet connection settings that could use a window tweak.

Internet speed is measured two ways - bandwidth and latency

Bandwidth is how much data you can send in a given period of time

Latency is how long data takes to travel

I describe it this way. Suppose two people have to take 40 people to the airport.

One person can carry 4 people besides the driver. The other is driving a bus and can carry all 40 people.

Both drivers can travel at 60 miles per hour. One person only has to make one trip to take all 40 people to the airport. The other person has to make 10 trips... The person with the bus has more bandwidth so they can carry more people. In the case of DSL speed and Cable modem speed that bandwidth is information.

All the red lights and stop signs that happen on the trip to the airport is latency - both experience the same stops along the way.
