DSL Bandwidth Test :: Measure Your Need For Speed

DSL Bandwidth Test is used for measuring the Bandwidth of your DSL, Cable, and Dialup Internet Connection Speeds. The DSL and Cable Internet Connection Speed Test may take only 30 seconds and you will see your computer’s results instantly. After checking your DSL bandwidth, they will e-mail you information on steps you can take to boost your speed and maximize your internet enjoyment. You can compare the results of your speed by bandwidth test with connection speeds offered by other DSL and Cable bandwidth connection providers.

A Bandwidth test measures your line speed, both uploads and downloads. The test servers are located in quality data centers for maximum accuracy. The Macintosh computing platform accesses the Internet through the same protocols that the Windows computing platform does. This means that theoretically, any type of internet service Windows computers can use the DSL tests for bandwidth and can be applied on Macintosh as well. Two things to watch out during a bandwidth tests are hardware and software. The DSL modems require your computer to have an Ethernet card installed, and some computers don’t have them already. The second field of bandwidth testing is the software.

Blue World

When you connect to the Internet, you might connect through a regular modem, through a local-area network (LAN) connection in your office, through a cable modem or through a digital subscriber line (DSL) connection. DSL is a very high-speed connection that uses the same wires as a regular telephone line.

Advantages of DSL

  • You can leave your Internet connection open and still use the phone line for voice calls.
  • The speed is much higher than a regular modem (1.5 Mbps vs. 56 Kbps)
  • DSL doesn’t necessarily require new wiring; it can use the phone line you already have.
  • The company that offers DSL will usually provide the modem as part of the installation.

Disadvantages of DSL

  • A DSL connection works better when you are closer to the provider’s central office.
  • The connection is faster for receiving data than it is for sending data over the Internet.
  • The service is not available everywhere, so better to check out first.

Bandwidth Tests and Modem

When you use a DSL connection, you are connected through a regular Modem. The word “Modem” is a contraction of the words modulator-demodulator i.e. mo-dem. A modem is typically used to send digital data over a phone line. The sending modem modulates the data into a signal that is compatible with the phone line, and the receiving modem demodulates the signal back into digital data. Wireless modems convert digital data into radio signals and back. In a configuration like this, a dumb terminal at an off-site office or store could “dial in” to a large, central computer. The 1960s were the age of time-shared computers, so a business would often buy computer time from a time-share facility and connect to it via a 300-bit-per-second (bps) modem.

Test Computer Speeds :: Speed Of Computer

There are lots of reasons why you might want to find out the speeds of your computer. Maybe you just got a new computer, and want to check the components. Perhaps you’re want a new game or program, but you’re not sure if your computer meets the minimum system requirements.

Fiber Optic

Many programs run comprehensive speed tests on your computer’s processor, RAM, graphics card and everything else, but the amount of detail they produce can be daunting. Most casual users prefer to just take the speed reading that the computer itself gives when it is booting up — it will be a reading in Mhz.

You might be able to spot it each time you boot up your computer, and you can use the ‘Pause/Break’ key on your keyboard to read it if it goes by too fast to read. You might also need to press Tab or F2 before it will appear. Unfortunately, every PC is different.

If you have no luck finding a speed reading when you’re booting up the computer, try right-clicking the My Computer icon in Windows and choosing Properties. Many computer manufacturers will put speed information there, also.
