“Our alliance with SBC ensures that our customers in the SBC territory do not have to worry about searching for a new provider,” says Ned Hayes, president and chief executive officer of DirecTV Broadband. “Our top priority through this transition is to ensure that all of our customers continue to access their broadband service with the least amount of disruption possible.” SBC provides DSL service to all or portions of 13 western states.
There are other tie-ups between SBC broadband services and other companies as well. Like the one with Yahoo. With Yahoo they have 2 packages. The SBC Yahoo! DSL and SBC Yahoo! Dial. The tie-up combines the powerful features of Yahoo with the reliable dial-up connection and 24 hour customer service of SBC broadband.
This is what SBC has to say. ‘SBC Yahoo! DSL is an information service that combines DSL transport, Internet access and applications from SBC Internet Services, with customized content, services and applications from Yahoo! Inc. to provide the customer with high-speed broadband access to the World Wide Web.” You get SBC Yahoo! DSL for just $26.95/month when you order online. There are great deals that come with both these packages. With the SBC Yahoo! DSL, you can customize your home page and also email, Webcam, instant message and more. You need to just download a new SBC Yahoo DSL browser designed to take full advantage of the fast new connection.
On the other hand the agreement with DirecTV follows an announcement made by Hughes Electronics Corp. on Dec. 13 that the company will discontinue its DSL high-speed Internet service. They will transition existing customers to alternative service providers. The SBC hi-speed broadband service. DirecTV Broadband is a subsidiary of Hughes. More than half of the 70,000 DirecTV Broadband customers in SBC territory are in California and Nevada.
