Bandwidth Meter Test - Effective, Powerful Tool to Increase Speed

Your PC is probably infected with adware & spyware if:

  • You have downloaded music online
  • Your PC is running extremely slow
  • You are pestered by those horrible popup ads
  • Your homepage keeps changing

The Bandwidth Meter Test or Bandwidth Meter Speed Test will check your Internet connection speed against top DSL, cable modem, and other broadband services. With the right Bandwidth Test it's as easy as counting 1, 2, and 3.

One of the main features of a Bandwidth Test is that it is easy and convenient. Connection speeds are measured from your local computer to a server that hosts the through Bandwidth Testing software. The test measures your speed from your computer to their server. Other Bandwidth Tests may measure to some other server located somewhere else in the world. There are many Bandwidth Speed Tests, let's look at one put out by CNET.

CNET Bandwidth Speed Test:

The CNET Bandwidth Meter Test is easy and very user friendly. When you click Go, a file downloads from their servers that calculates your bandwidth speed from the CNET Internet Services site. Your bandwidth speed may be affected by the following factors:

The CNET Bandwidth Meter Speed Test does not currently list Internet access services outside of the United States . Therefore, area codes are optional for international users.

How Bandwidth Test Work?

Remember, the further away the server location the more likely you'll measure a lower speed. The rate at which computers can send and receive information is expressed in bandwidth as bits per second. Many users connect to the net with 28.8 modems, which, under optimal conditions, deliver a bandwidth of 28,800 bits of data per second.

Because of circuit losses in equipment to your access point, distance from server and other Internet related losses; your bandwidth speed will never equal the DSL circuit speed you ordered.

For example, a 64kb DSL circuit will never measure a full 64kb but will more likely test at 55kb. A 128kb connection will probably measure 118kb etc. You may also perform the test 10 times and get 10 different readings. Tests cannot give you the accurate result of your net speed.

Download Speeds are measured in bytes and bandwidth Speeds are measured in bits. Bits are rarely seen alone in computer technology. They are almost always bundled together into 8-bit collections, and these collections are called bytes. For this reason your bandwidth Speed will always be reported as approximately 8 times greater than your download Speed.

Simply put, bandwidth is a measurement of how much, how quickly. The speed at which your brain absorbs words (words per minute), your computer accepts keystrokes (characters per second), or your faucet squirts water (gallons per minute) can be described in terms of bandwidth. In the computer world we measure the bandwidth speed in bits and bytes.
