The world of broadband is more affordable than ever. Today more and more people are jumping on the bandwagon thanks to special promotions from companies like Verizon DSL and Comcast. cable. Both offer competitive speeds with cable just nudging out DSL with faster connections. Making sure you’re getting the speed you’re paying for is easy by performing a cable Internet speed test.
Now before you cringe at the thought of getting into your system and monkeying around don’t worry. Internet cable speed tests as well as other speed tests can be performed on your system free of charge simply by logging on to one of the many websites that offer this service. Testing your bandwidth is simple. Just follow the links that take you to the test area and there you’ll choose a server to perform the test. If possible, pick a server that isn’t busy (usually each server will list just how jammed up it is) and start the test. The server will send a small file to your computer and then using an applet, send that file back. That way it can gauge just how fast your cable or other connection is. Once finished you’ll be given a detailed report as well as how well your connection stacks up to every other type of connection out there.
It’s helpful to know what your provider says your upload and download speeds should be before performing this test. That way you can easily tell if you’re actually getting the speed you’re paying for. If you find your connection is slower than you thought, take a good look at your system before calling your provider to complain.
